3 Recipes Using Rose

We can not love another if we don't first love ourselves. The benefits really are endless. Despite that, self-love is often seen as selfish and egocentric. If you look up self-centered for synonyms the connotations are quite negative:

self-centered adjective preoccupied with oneself and one's affairs.

Synonyms: egocentric, egotistic, egotistical, egomaniacal, self-regarding, self-absorbed, self-obsessed, self-seeking, self-interested, self-serving, wrapped up in oneself, inward-looking, introverted, selfish, self-loving, narcissistic, vain;

Antonyms: considerate

It’s time we took the word back and realise that it is beneficial to those around us to be inward-looking and self-loving. Only when you know what you truly need can you seek and request it from others. This is all our loved ones truly want for us. Whether you are involved in a romantic relationship or not I've put together some of my favourite rosey treats for you to enjoy as an offering to the self this year.

Rose is a wonderful herb that helps in all matters of the heart. Well known in aromatherapy and herbal medicine for it's ability to comfort anyone suffering grief. You can learn more about it in our podcast episode here.

Rose Tea

1 tsp of Pink rose buds

Infuse the rose buds with boiling water for 3 minutes. Keep the tea covered while it infuses so you don't lose any of the wonderful essential oils through evaporation. Take time to yourself while you enjoy the tea. Perhaps light a candle and sit in contemplation, perhaps sip it in the bath or with your feet up with your favourite book. Do whatever nourishes your soul the most. Because you're worth it.

Rose Infused Raw Chocolates

1 cup raw cacao
1 cup cocoa butter
1/4 cup liquid sweetener of your choice
2 drops rose otto essential oil
A sauce pan
A glass or metal bowl
A small whisk (normal size will do)

Fill a pan with a little water and turn the heat so that it is steaming (usually a rolling boil).Place a bowl on top. This is your make-shift bain marie.

Put the cocoa butter in the bowl and let melt. Once it has completely melted add the raw cacao powder. Whisk in to ensure there are no lumps.

Add a couple drops of rose otto essential oil.

Once you have a chocolate sauce consistency without lumps you can take it off the heat and pour into a container of your choice. I like to line a dish with greaseproof paper.

You might like to sprinkle the top of your chocolate with the odd rose petal.

Rose and Coconut Body Butter

60g coconut oil
4ml rosehip oil
3ml jojoba oil
3ml St. John’s Wort (hypericum) oil
3 drops rose otto essential oil
10g corn starch

Fill a bowl with a little water and turn the heat so that it steams (usually a rolling boil). Place a glass or metal bowl on top. This is your make-shift bain marie.

Put all the ingredients in the bowl to melt.

Once they are a liquid, whisk it together thoroughly and put them in the fridge to cool.

Once solidified again take it out of the fridge and let it warm slightly. As it warms you will be able to work it with a whisk. Keep whisking till you get a lovely silky smooth consistency. Put in your jar of choice.
