Meet the Maker: Anu

Let me introduce you to Anu. She is the bright light behind the Anuuk brand. Bringing you naturally scented oils and candles. I am now stocking her oils on the website so it's easy for you to incorporate scent into your daily life. I especially like the oils because they are so adaptable. I've burnt them in my room, I've put some in the bath, I've worn a little as perfume and even taken it for massages with me. I worked in natural beauty care for 7 years before starting Forage and I feel that I've smelt the same old natural scents for years. That's why when I smelt Anu's products I knew this was something different. She does not compromise on quality and the oils she makes are out of this world. Let's hear a little from the maker to discover why she does what she does.

Why do you make your products?

I have always been a creative person and making my own products has always been a part of my life. I am fascinated by the sense of smell and how that effects us without even realising it. Creating fragrances is a challenge as we all have our own favourite smells and what some people hate, some love. I am hoping to create natural perfumes one day in the future.

When did you start your company?

I started my original company in 2011. I was looking for new challenges in my mid 30s and after many years in retail management I wanted to change my career; so I trained as a masseuse. As I had always been passionate about natural healing it felt like the right choice. My product making is just one aspect of my business and it suits me very well to do different things as it keeps my creativity alive and constantly gives me new ideas.

How did you start it?

I started by making products for myself and my friends and family. It then grew into a product line which took me about two years to develop. The candles and essential oil blends were the first products to launch at the beginning of this year.

Where in the world are you based?

I am based in London where my clinic is. I am originally from Finland though and as I grew up so close to nature it has always been a big influence in my work. I am enthusiastic about natural healing powers of the plants.

Do you have a morning routine?

I wake up between 5am and 6am and first do my little meditation practice. I then start my day with a cup of coffee and usually by checking my social media as this is how most people get in touch with me.

Who's your favourite instagram account right now?

My current favourite Instagram has nothing to do with work, it just makes me smile. It’s about a little dog and the owner makes great videos about his adventures. It is called Here comes meatball.

When you were little what did you think you'd grow up to be?

Ever since I was a little girl, I always wanted to have my own business and do something creative and help people. That theme has been with me most of my life and I am sure it will continue in some form until my last breath.

What do you think you'll grow up to be now?

I don’t know if I want to grow up! :) I would hope i could always have a somewhat child-like approach to things, don’t be limited by your thoughts of what is possible, but always be searching and trying something new. To have a little adventure every day :)
